Canada Day Facts:

1.) Canadian annual holiday marking the day in 1867 when Canada became the first British colony to become a dominion.

2.) Former name Dominion Day.

3.) Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867.

4.) Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date, but the British Parliament held limited political control over the new country, that was shed in stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982.

In Your Absence

Not yet summer,
but unseasonable heat
pries open the cherry tree.

It stands there stupefied,
in its sham, pink frills,
dense with early blooming.

Then, as afternoon cools
into more furtive winds,
I look up to see
a blizzard of petals
rushing the sky.

It is only April.
I can't stop my own life
from hurrying by.
The moon, already pacing.

"Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen."
-Leonardo da Vinci

Hello - I hope everyone is having a great week! Today I am featuring my favorite type of art to collect: ACEO's.

"Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures."
-Henry Ward Beecher

What is an ACEO you say? Well, let me tell you!

ACEO stands for "Art Cards, Editions and Originals". When creating these cards there is only one rule - they have to measure 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches - the size of a trading card. Otherwise, the sky is the limit!

ACEO's are an offshoot of the popular and frequently traded (never sold) Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). These original, work-of-art calling cards were traded among artists and were the brainchild of Swiss artist, M. Vänçi Stirnemann in 1996.

ACEO's are sold as originals or prints. Make sure you know which type you are buying. A print should be labeled as such, and it should be numbered and signed.

I am an avid ACEO collector. I have "Coffee Table" book that I made to keep my ACEO collection. I love to look at it daily and it makes a great conversation piece! Collecting ACEO's is a fun, compact, and relatively inexpensive way to collect art!

Start your collection today!

ACEO Exchange: Let's have some fun!

Hello!

I am fortunate enough to participate in the More Meaningful Gifts (MMG) BnR.

As a result of some conversations, we decided to have an ACEO exchange: ACEO-X (version 1.0)!

Amanda at Ulixis Crafts
has kindly offered to host it!

Anyone who's interested can participate, but you have to be committed to make an ACEO & mail it off to your swap partner within the deadline!

By: ddots

What is an ACEO?

ACEO stands for "art cards, editions & originals". You may also see them labeled as "ATC" or "art trading cards". Basically, the only rule for these mini pieces of art is that they be the same size as standard playing / baseball cards: 2.5" x 3.5". Otherwise, the sky's the limit - you can use pretty much any technique you want! Knit or sew one together, make one out of clay, paper mache or collage...

By: artbydonnarose

ACEO-X Rules:

1. Make sure you can create an original ACEO by Friday July 24th and are willing to send it to your partner world-wide by Monday July 27th at the latest.

DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU AREN'T PLANNING ON SENDING AN ACEO!

2. The deadline to sign up is Sunday July 12. On this day, Amanda will randomize the partners & let you know who you're sending your ACEO to. You won't know who you're getting yours from though! This gives you 2 weeks to create an original ACEO.

3. To sign up: send your name, Etsy shop name (if you have one), email address & mailing address to Amanda @ ulixis{dot}crafts{at}gmail{dot}com. Please put "ACEO swap" in the subject line.

4. Your ACEO must be the standard 2.5 x 3.5" size but otherwise let your creativity run wild. It MUST BE AN ORIGINAL art card and NOT a print! Please make sure to include the title of your piece, your name & the date either on the back of the card or on an additional piece of paper.

5. Take a quick picture of your ACEO and send it to Amanda by Friday July 24. This way, she can be sure everyone is getting their surprise. Once Amanda has a photo of all of them, she will blog about them & show them off so everyone can wonder which one they're getting!

If you have any other questions feel free to contact me through my blog or check out Ulixis Crafts.

Hello! I hope everyone had a great week!

It has been busy around my house - both of my kids were sick and my six year-old missed a week of school. I listed a few new items in my Etsy shop and "created" a few more "treats" that I need to list. Also, I have purchased quite a few items from various Etsy shops which I was happy to find! Hence - Fabulous Finds for Friday!!

Fabulous Find #1:

This lovely little shop carries homemade loose teas in a variety of flavors, tea cups, tea pots and other tea accessories!

I purchased the three flavor variety pack!

Fabulous Find #2:

Kimber's Handmade Bath & Body

Need to pamper yourself a little? Well, this is the place to start! Kimber carries over 150 scents of handmade soaps, sugar scrubs, bath salts and linen sprays.

I purchased the sweet orange soap with colloidal oatmeal and it is wonderful.

Fabulous Find #3:

My Artsy Baby

If you have kids and are planning to redecorate their room(s)or are looking for one more thing to make their room "just so," stop by this shop!

I redecorated my six year-olds room and needed one more piece of artwork for over his bed. Well, after months of searching, I found this..... (bear in mind it was a custom order so I don't have the exact picture because it is in production.)

(picture #1)

I hope you enjoyed my Fabulous Finds!! Now, go shopping and help the economy!

Ciao!
